6th Arab Platform for DRR
The Arab Regional Platform is a vital disaster risk reduction coordination mechanism, providing a platform for all DRR stakeholders to take stock of progress and agree on the way forward to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework and the Arab Strategy for DRR, reaffirming political commitment to accelerate its implementation.
The 6th Arab Regional Platform for DRR, themed “Building Resilient Arab Communities: From Understanding to Action,” hosted by the State of Kuwait and organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, in partnership with the League of Arab States, will be held from 9 to 12 February 2025 in Kuwait City.
The Arab Regional Platform will result in a political declaration, the Kuwait Declaration for Disaster Risk Reduction, reflecting the commitment of Arab countries to accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework and the Arab Strategy for DRR.
The outcomes of the Arab Regional Platform for DRR and the Kuwait Declaration will inform the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York and the 2025 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, scheduled for 2-6 June 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Kuwait Declaration for Disaster Risk Reduction
The declaration reaffirms the urgent need to strengthen resilience across the Arab region in the face of increasing disaster risks. The declaration underscores the importance of accelerating the implementation of the Sendai Framework, enhancing governance for risk reduction, increasing investments in disaster-resilient infrastructure, and leveraging science, technology, artificial intelligence, and early warning systems.
